| “I’ve attached before and after photos of the floor mats from my ’63 Limited Edition Thunderbird for you to see. These are exact repros of the original front and rear mats. Very nice looking in my opinion. The color you created from the vinyl top sample sent to you is the color I’m dyeing the mats. It’s too bad Ford didn’t offer this mat color choice back in ’63 as I think it is RICH and very good looking. I prefer the darker shade of mats with the rose beige carpeting. White mats were used in the car originally but are not being reproduced. The white sort of screams, “Look at ME” and draws too much attention to the floor of the car. There is already so much white going on tin the interior. I think it would be crazy to introduce more! And, I think it would be next to impossible to keep the white mats clean! I also don’t think I could ever successfully dye the black mats white, even if I wanted to! The darker shade is more somber and blends quietly into the car’s overall interior (imho). I also put one coat of Clear Cote on the mats so they would be protected and would also have a little sheen. I guess you know Princess Grace was consulted regarding the colors in which the car ended up being produced? The inspiration for the color scheme came from the Monaco Flag…”
